For me, there is not a lot that is more fun than getting on a bike and taking in the sights, sounds and atmosphere of places around the world. It doesn't have to be hard, but it can be so rewarding!

Here are a few more places that I have enjoyed with a bike:
Mljet Island, Croatia. Another relatively flat ride of 15-20km where you do the circuit around the island's two salt water lakes. Hire the bike in the Mljet National Park and ride around for as far as you feel able, it's a beautiful ride. My biggest lesson here was that the brakes are on the opposite side of the handle bars than in New Zealand .. note to self: don't slam on the one that you think is the back brake when trying to show-off with a big skid, you may go over the handle bars! All's well, that ends well!

Mljet Island, Croatia. Rhodes, Greece. Straight off my Celebrity Cruise ship and the bike hire shop was at the end of the pier .. a perfect way to ride around the fort, along the waterfront, up the hill and around to the beaches on the other side. Easy, fun, great scenery and an enjoyable way to head to the beaches for a cooling off swim.

Rhodes, Greece. Furadouro, Portugal and the Golden Waves Surf Lodge provided bikes, yoga and surfing. A great all round 'feel good' experience of community, sightseeing, beautiful beaches, exercise and fun .. with a good body stretch included.
London, England, offers plenty of parks, flat paths and easy bike hire from a number of street docking locations with Santander. A fun and easy way to see the sights and you can keep changing your bike at the docking stations before the time limit runs out, to extend the ride period. A cheap and fun way to sightsee in London.
Port Douglas, Australia. North Queensland, what better place than this to ride a bike along the beautiful white-sand beaches? My bike hire was from the Ramada Wyndham Resort that I was staying at and the terrain was easy and enjoyable, along beaches and through bush. Check your accommodation for bike hire or there is generally a bike shop in town or at another hotel.

Melbourne City, Australia, offers a beautiful central place to ride when you hire a bike, from one of the many docking stations with Lime or a rental shop, to ride along the many cycle trails of the Yarra River or Albert Park. You can also add a walk or run through the Botanical Gardens and around the 'Tan,' the 3.8km designated running/walking track. A nice way to get out amongst the natural park areas in this vibrant city.
Cam Thanh, Hoi An, Vietnam. An excursion added on to my Intrepid Tour, in Southeast Asia, saw me riding a bike around rice fields and through the streets and back streets in Hoi An. A fun and easy way to sightsee, to spend time with your fellow travellers and to be out amongst the locals in their home environment.

Hoi An, Vietnam. Phillipsburg, St Maarten, Caribbean. Straight off my Celebrity Cruise ship and the bikes were all waiting for us at the end of the pier. An afternoon ride around a circuit that took us up to some spectacular views and then on to many of the area's highlights and through the town, finishing with a rum punch and a swim at the beach before heading back to the ship. A unique way to take in the sights and get some exercise, plus enjoy time with others on your cruise .. there is always someone who wants to have a laugh and a race with you.
When in the USA, I always enjoy a bike ride in Florida, Miami or Fort Lauderdale, and it is an easy way to ride along the beach and the boardwalk, to cover a bit more distance than just walking. Easy enough to hire from the docking stations, some hotels or a rental shop and it's always enjoyable to do, with the climate being perfect. When I was in Towson, Maryland, it was an enjoyable way to ride around the area and to the University to watch my daughter play for New Zealand in the Women's Lacrosse Championships, in 2022. The team at the Trek Bicycle Towson were excellent and gave me a new bike to ride and advice on the trails in the area. Great way to combine two enjoyable experiences on the same trip and enjoy the location in between supporting the team.
Summary:
Easy to summarise ... It's fun, it feels great and you get to experience things in a unique way, as they say, it's as easy as riding a bike! See you out there.
